Long hair on men is denounced.
May 10, 1649
Gov. John Endicott, Thomas Dudley, and Mr. Bellingham sign a petition saying, “For as much as the wearing of long hair, after the manner of Russians and barbarous Indians has begun to invade New England contrary to the rule of God’s word which says it is a shame for a man to wear long hair, [we] do declare and manifest our dislike and detestation against it.”
